How To Clean Out Your Jars
Reminder - Never put wax down a sink drain
Option 1 - Freezer Method
Cold causes wax to harden and shrink, making it easier to remove. Start by using a butter knife - or a spoon - to break up any large chunks of wax that remain in the container if the jar has a narrow mouth. Place the candle in the freezer for several hours or until frozen. Once frozen, the wax should pop out. If it is still a little stubborn, you can loosen it with a butter knife. Scrape of any leftover residue and then clean out the container with soap and water.
Option 2 - Boiling Water Method
Hot water is another way to remove wax. Place the candle on flat surface protected by a towel or newspaper. Use a butter knife or spoon to remove excess wax. Pour boiling water into the container, be sure to leave room at the top. The boiling water will melt the wax causing it to float to the top. Let the water cool and remove the wax. Strain the water to get rid of any small bits of wax. Scrape of any leftover residue and then clean out the container with soap and water.
Option 3 - Oven Method
This is a great way to clean out multiple containers at once. Use a butter knife or spoon to remove excess wax. Heat the oven to 180 degrees and line a rimmed baking pan with tinfoil or parchment paper. Place the candles upside down in the pan and place the pan in the oven. The wax will melt in about 10-15 minutes. Remove the pan and place on a heat-safe surface. Using a towel or pot holder, remove each container and wipe the inside with a paper towel. Once the container is cool, clean out with soap and water.
Option 4 - Double Boiler Method
Use a butter knife or spoon to remove excess wax. Fill a pot with 2 inches of water and place on the stove. Place the container in the pot and allow water to heat up. Let the container sit in the hot water until the wax has softened. Remove the container, pour or wipe out the wax, then clean out with soap and water.
